Meter Reading
We read meters using a device that sends a signal to the radio attached to your meter, which in turns sends our device the meter reading back to us. We typically read meters around the 20th of the month. Then we review those readings and create the bills. Bills are mailed and/or emailed to you on the last business day of each month. Bills are due the 20th of the following month.
Sometimes meters and radios cease working and we will need to replace one/both. When we learn of a meter or radio which did not read, we estimate the water usage. You will see this on your bill as an "Estimated Reading". Prior to the next reading, we will coordinate with you to change the meter and/or radio.
Owner Responsibility
Water and sewer service lines are the responsibility of the property owners. This includes pipes, fittings and connection on the property, extending all the way to the City's mains. Protecting the water meter from freezing and other damage also falls on the property owner. Ordinance #9-2-3 states:
"Rule 13. Responsibility for Service Pipes and Fixtures: The City will not be responsible for service pipes and fixtures. Owners, at their own expense, must keep service pipes and fixtures from the mains in good working order and properly protected from frost and other dangers. No claim shall be made against the City on account of failure of any service pipe or fixture or for the accidental failure in the supply of water. No reductions from the regular rates will be made for any time that service pipes or fixtures are out of commission due to frost."
